  5. PROTO-C is a new application language system that runs under the UNIX operating
  6. system. As a language and program development environment, it was designed with
  7. several goals in mind: to provide a language that has all of the functionality
  8. of modern block-structured programming languages such as C, Pascal, and ADA and
  9. to allow easy manipulation of data in ways that previously required subroutine
  10. packages. The syntax of PROTO-C is similar to that of the C language. It allows
  11. strict control of program complexity by the use of functions which have full
  12. generality to accept or produce aggregate data structures. Access control of
  13. arguments can be specified in both function calls and definitions.
